Novice Information

Our Hockey League does not organize or govern over Novice level of hockey, it is directed by Hockey Alberta and the Intro To Hockey model.

At the option of each association, the league will be assisting associations with creating a novice schedule for your teams and posting the dates of your games on the website.  No game stats will be recorded.

Please find below a template for categorizing your associations' novice teams.  This may assist the parents, coaches, and managers in finding competition within the skill level of their team.  The intent of this classification is to aid in finding competition around our league that is at a similar skill set. Grouping of players of alike ability can be a very important principle for setting up young players for success and enjoyment. The focus of the Intro to Hockey model is player development. It is important in both station-based practices and in half-ice gameplay that players be grouped by similar ability levels when possible or necessary. This will support the skill level of the players on the ice which will allow more puck touches and fun for all the players participating.

There will only be three groups:

  1. Group 1 - equivalent to Tier 1/2
  2. Group 2 - equivalent to Tier 3/4
  3. Group 3 - equivalent to Tier 5/6

*** Ideally teams should consist of 9-13 players but may be as many as 18 players.

If you would like to list your team on the website, please email the following information to the Vice Scheduler.
